IGF-OES (IGF-1 Ec or Mechano Growth Factor E-peptide) is a peptide derived from the E-domain of the IGF-1 gene, produced by alternative splicing. The E-peptides are the C-terminal extensions of the pro-IGF-I molecule with a 24-amino acid sequence.
The IGF-1Ec isoform (MGF) has been mainly associated with muscle regeneration processes.
IGF-OES functions through multiple pathways:
E-peptides activate ERK1/2 phosphorylation without affecting Akt
Effects not mediated via IGF-1R, insulin receptor, or hybrid receptors
E-domain peptide inhibits intrinsic apoptotic pathway
E-peptides enhance IGF-I receptor activity by augmenting IGF-I signaling through the MAPK pathway.
Satellite cell activation and fusion, muscle regeneration studies
Preservation of cardiac function, inhibition of pathologic hypertrophy
Tenocyte migration, tendon repair, FAK-ERK1/2 signaling
Prostate cancer biology, tumor growth and progression studies
